Nebraska Public Power District's rates likely to climb in 2014

Nebraska Public Power District customers could be paying more for their utilities in the coming year.

The Nebraska Public Power District is expected increase electricity rates in 2014.

But the upped fees could be lower than originally forecasted.

Customers are likely to see a 2% percent increase in their electricity rates, it was originally estimated that the rates would jump 3.5% percent.

The 2014 hike will be the District's eighth increase in eight years.
 
The Nebraska Public Power District serves about 60,000 retail and wholesale customers.
