City of Torrington sets new park ordinance

Posted: Updated:

Acts of vandalism are down in one KOTA Territory community, following the creation of a new park ordinance.

People hanging out in Torrington City Parks are now subject to a curfew.

Parks and Recreation Supervisor Matt John says Sunday through Thursday people need to be out of city–parks by 10 p.m.  On Friday and Saturday evenings, park–goers can stay until midnight.

John says the new ordinance will have the biggest impact on the city's teens.

"I don't think the kids have anything against it," says John.  "I just think that their one thing is, there's nothing to do.  And that's kind of why we did it, is we've cut down on our vandalism.  so I think that's helped us in the long run."

John says the park ordinance has only been in place for a month but the city has seen a noticeable reduction in vandalism, such as broken city-property and graffiti, during that time.
