Doctors recommending getting immunization shots early

Posted: Updated:

August is National Immunization Month ,and as kids are getting ready for school...many health offices and clinics are filling up with people getting vaccines.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it's important that parents have their children get all the necessary vaccinations before the start of school.

The CDC also says anyone older than 6-months old should receive the seasonal flu shot.
Physician Assistant Johnna  Pierson says it's important to start the school year off on a healthy note.
"It's important, we have a lot of diseases in the U.S. that are controlled because of vaccinations and we do want to keep it that way," explains Pierson. "And you see more often these last several years where parents are declining the vaccinations and we have seen increases in certain illnesses that use to be close to eradication."
If parents are curious about side effects or how many vaccines their child should get before school, Pierson says talk to your child's doctor.
