Carnival celebrates end of summer, collects food for charity

Posted: Updated:

A summer wrap–up carnival celebrates the end of an amazing summer season, while collecting canned goods for charity.

Two canned goods score visitors one ticket to play carnival games at the Riverside Discovery Center's annual end–of–the–summer celebration.

Those without canned food can still purchase tickets and play games like ‘ring toss' and the 'rubber ducky pond pull'.

Zoo Education Curator, Kim Miedema, says between the bounce house, dunk tank, and a variety of carnival-themed games, there's an activity for everyone to enjoy.

"Some that are easy for some of the younger players.  Some that can be a little harder for the older people," says Miedema.  "It's just a fun day for people to come out to the zoo, enjoy the animals, enjoy playing some games, and celebrate the start of the school year."

The canned food collected during today's event will be donated to the Our Lady of Guadalupe Center food bank in Scottsbluff.
