Mitchell woman facing possible drug charges after Monday afternoon pursuit

Posted: Updated:

A Mitchell woman- who was believed to be armed and unstable- is now in police custody, after leading local law authorities on an afternoon pursuit.

Around 3 p.m. police received a report of a woman with a gun driving around Mitchell. She reportedly found out that she had tested positive for methamphetamine, and started making threats.

Members from the Mitchell Police Department, Morrill Police Department, Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Department, and Scottsbluff Police Department were on the lookout for the driver's vehicle- a gold 1996 Buick Lucerne.

Police were able to track her whereabouts via cell phone, and tracked her to near the Lander's Soccer Complex in northern Scottsbluff. She was apprehended in the east side of Fairview Cemetery, and taken into custody without incident.

A search of her vehicle led to the discovery of two glass pipes with white residue on them. They are currently being tested for methamphetamine. However no firearm was found.

Police took the woman to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Scottsbluff County Deputy Sheriff Scott Bibb tells KOTA Territory News that the joint-agency search was all about one thing; public safety.

"We were basically concerned with public safety," says Bibb. "Anytime a person is that unstable- we don't know what can happen."

Bibb adds that charges could be filed against the woman if the white residue from the pipes do test positive for methamphetamine.
