Nebraska math standards put to the test

Posted: Updated:

Nebraska math standards were put to the test in a recent study that compared the state's math standards with the rest of the nation.

The study found that Nebraska's math curriculum is not quite up to par with the rest of the nation.

The state department of education called for the study to see how Nebraska's standards compare with the national 'Common Core' standards that are adopted in other states.

It found that Nebraska math standards do not cover as high of math concepts as the rest of the nation, and many don't go beyond advanced high school algebra.

The 'Common Core' state standards are a set of educational standards that outline a single set of math and English language arts for all schools.

Common Core standards are adopted by all but four states, including Nebraska.
