Former senator accused of gambling with campaign funds agrees to suspension of law license

A former Nebraska state senator accused of using campaign funds to go gambling with agreed to a temporary suspension of her law license.

Former state senator Brenda Council agreed to the suspension as she as she awaits a disciplinary hearing.

Council plead guilty earlier this month to two misdemeanors for filing false campaign finance reports.

Bank records and casino security tapes show Council took out more than $60,000 dollars at casinos on several occasions.

Prosecutors say the money came from campaign donations.

As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors will recommend probation for the Omaha attorney when she's sentenced on December 5.

An ethics complaint against council was filed with the Nebraska supreme court's counsel for discipline.

The state supreme court could disbar Council.
