Crews completing seventh week of Alliance's revitalization project

Posted: Updated:

The Historic Main Street revitalization project in Alliance has entered its seventh week of construction as crews work on Phase One brick by brick.

Demolition is continuing near Bank of the West near Box Butte Avenue.

This week crews are pouring concrete on the southwest side of the 200 block of Box Butte Avenue for curb and gutters.

Recently, crews dug underground to install electricity and irrigation systems.

The state's Arbor Department is expected to plant new trees where previous ones were cut down.

Members of the Historic Main Street Committee say the 1.5 million dollar project has been in the making for 15 years and is a way to give back to the community.

"I think this is something that a lot of people look at as an expense." Says Historic Main Street Vice President Rich Otto. "But I think it's really an investment for our community. When you invest in the community, you want to make sure you give back. The community has been good to all of us. We want to make sure we provide for the future generation and have a healthy downtown for the whole community."

Construction for Phase One of the project is expected to end in November.
