Property taxes top issues at Sen. Harms' meetings

Posted: Updated:

Agriculture issues topped the discussion at a listening session in the panhandle hosted by State Senator John Harms.

Harms says many farmers and ranchers want property taxes to change.

But water management also seems to be an issue.

He's a member of the tax modernization committee and recently established a commission to study the amount of water used for agriculture in his district.

Harms says the purpose of the committee is to determine what people should be doing with water control.

"Water is going to be an issue in a decade and we need to make sure that western Nebraska is treated fairly and appropriately and if you don't take an interest in it and follow it, you won't know."

Harms is encouraging people in his district to pay attention to the water control committee as it studies water in the future.
