Midland University President Ben Sasse has kicked off his run for U.S. Senate to replace outgoing Republican Sen. Mike Johanns and is spending the next two days touring the state.
Sasse began his tour Tuesday in South Sioux City before flying to Lincoln. By the end of the day, he will have made stops in Hastings, Kearney, Grand Island, North Platte, Scottsbluff and Alliance. On Wednesday, he will make stops in Sidney, McCook, Beatrice, Columbus and Norfolk.
On Monday, Sasse officially launched his campaign at a rally in Fremont, attended by more than 200 people.
So far, Sasse faces three other candidates in the Republican primary: former Nebraska State Treasurer Shane Osborn, Omaha attorney Bart McLeay and Omaha banker Sid Dinsdale.
