New track and field facility nearly complete

Posted: Updated:

The construction of a new track and field facility at Bayard High School is nearly complete.

The school's previous track was more than 40 years old and made of asphalt.  Newer tracks are made out of rubber.

Superintendent Travis Miller says the old track had been maintained and refurbished over the years, but the school was ready for a modern facility.

The surface of the newly installed track is made of 100% recycled Nebraska tires.

"Everyday we have members of the community out here enjoying the track for their own health and well being," says Miller.  "It really is a community facility, in addition for being here for use by our students and athletes."

Miller is hopeful Bayard's new track will allow the school to host more local and regional track meets.
