Providers learn about early childhood behavior at annual conference

Posted: Updated:

More than 200 parents and providers gathered for the 25th Annual Western Nebraska Early Childhood Conference in Gering on Saturday.

Members say the conference provided ways on how to handle the behavior of kids under the age of five the best.

A professional panel spoke about several topics including nutrition and child abuse allegations.

Keynote speaker Dr. Laura Riffel shared her 30 years of experience and thoughts on how to handle behavioral triggers from kids like whining and crying.

"We need to look at those behaviors in our child and figure out what it is; that whining, that crying, that biting, whatever it is. That's the behavior, what's the function behind it so that we can do something proactive and then we won't be reactive." Said Riffel.

Organizers say having a strong relationship with children at a young age is important for how they will act later in life.
