Crews on scene of grain elevator fire in Gordon

Posted: Updated:

Crews are still on scene of a massive grain bin fire at the Farmer's Coop Elevator in Gordon.

Officials at the Sheridan Co. Sheriff's office say the fire, which broke out about 5:22 a.m., has partially been contained.

Several fire departments including Gordon, Chadron, Hay Springs and Rushville responded to the scene near 100 S. Main street.

Officials say the northside of Highway 27 has reopened after thick, black smoke caused it to be close around 6:30 a.m.

Local streets near the co-op remain closed this afternoon.

It's unclear if power has been restored to nearby residents.

Officials say the Fire Marshal is waiting for the fire to be completely put out in order to begin the investigation.

No injuries have been reported at this time.
