Hundreds of runners come out to support local veterans

Posted: Updated:

Not everyone may know what it's like to fight in war but hundreds of runners in Gering honored veterans and military families on Saturday at the 5th annual Warrior Run.

More than 150 runners and walkers came out to support the fundraiser.

Some participants said the reason why they ran or walked was to give back to all veterans who have sacrificed their lives while in the armed forces.

Others said this race was a great way to stay in shape for a good cause.

"This event, I like it." Said Jeff Ross of Scottsbluff. "I've been doing it a bit for a number of years and it's good because it's local. It supports our local veterans and it's a good cause."

Sam Poynter of Scottsbluff agreed. "They serve our country, sometimes when they get back from war they're kind of forgotten about and I don't think that they should be. They should always be recognized for what they've done for every American."

Proceeds went to the Veterans and Military Family Emergency Relief organization.
