A trial date has been set for a California man accused of strangling a woman at a Big Springs truck stop in Deuel County.

30-year-old Matthew Emerzian of Chico, California appeared for a preliminary hearing on False Imprisonment and Strangulation on Monday in Deuel County Court.

An arrest affidavit states that on October 19th, patrons at Big Springs Truck and Travel heard a woman screaming "Help me, help me".  Emerzian allegedly drove away from the fueling area with the female half in, and half out of the vehicle.

Witnesses say that Emerzian was holding the woman by her throat and by the hair.

During  an interview with police, the woman said that Emerzian had been hitting and choking her the entire trip from California.

A 2 day jury trial has been scheduled to begin on January 9th, with a pretrial conference for December 19th.

If convicted, Emerzian could face up to 10 years in prison.
