Gering couple nabbed in WING meth bust

Posted: Updated:

A Gering Couple is facing felony drug charges following a series of controlled methamphetamine purchases.

48-year-old Brad Benavides and 38-year-old Chatty (Maxwell) Benavides were arrested yesterday after a week-long investigation by the WING Drug Task Force.

Court documents say that on October 30th, a cooperating individual purchased 3.6 grams of methamphetamine from Brad Benavides at his apartment on Country Club Road.

On a second occasion, that same CI made a second controlled purchase, for the same amount of methamphetamine.

Yesterday, a search warrant was executed at that apartment, and investigators found a pill bottle with approximately 15-20 grams of individually bagged methamphetamine. Also located was a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Brad Benavides was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Distribution of a Controlled Substance, Possession with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.

During the search, investigators contacted Chatty Benavides about a purse- which she stated belonged to her. During the search investigators found approximately 3 grams of methamphetamine, marijuana, and paraphernalia.

Chatty (Maxwell) Benavides was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled substance (methamphetamine).
