EWC students help fix nearly 100 cats at "All Day Spay Day"

More than 100 cats were operated on today during the "All Day Spay Day" event at Scottsbluff's Animal Health Center.

The animal health center hosted "All Day Spay Day" in an effort to curb the overpopulation of feral cats in Scotts Bluff County.

Vet techs say it's important to get animals spayed and neutered to limit the stray population and cut back on the spread of animal diseases like rabies.

At least 110 cats were brought into the Animal Health Center, and a handful of vet tech students from Eastern Wyoming college helped out with the surgeries, doing everything from physical exams to prepping cats for surgery.
"Its awesome to definitely get the hands-on experience, its definitely going to help us in the long run. Monitoring anesthesia... and it's gonna help us in the classes that we haven't taken, we are going to be ahead in all that.," said EWC vet tech student Kelsey Loper.
The Animal Health Center will host another spay day for dogs and cats in February.
