A Scottsbluff man is facing charges stemming from a November 1st assault.

26-year-old Joe Ybarra was arrested earlier this month on one count of Second Degree Assault (Intentional).

Court documents say that a Scottsbluff Police Officer responded to a scene where an alleged assault occurred. The victim's face was severely swollen and was bleeding from an injury to his face.

It is reported that the victim has a child with Ybarra's current girlfriend. The arrest affidavit says that Ybarra went to meet the victim to talk about ongoing issues.

A witness says she saw Ybarra get out of his vehicle and attack the man. She says he was wearing brass knuckles as he punched the victim continually in the face as the victim laid on the street.

A man wearing a black ski mask had a gun and fired several shots in the direction of the victim.

At that point, Ybarra turned to the victim's girlfriend and yelled, "You want some of this?" while flexing his muscles.

The victim was knocked unconscious at the scene, and didn't recall the altercation when he was interviewed at the hospital. Stitches were required to close two wounds to his face.

Bond has been set at $100,000 at 10%, and if convicted Ybarra could face up to 20 years in prison.
