Gering mom who sold meth with kids in car to be sentenced today

Posted: Updated:

A Gering woman accused of selling methamphetamine while two young children were in her car will be sentenced on amended charges this afternoon.

23-year-old Brianna Novotny has pleaded no contest to amended charges of 'Attempt of a Class II felony' and 'Commit child abuse negligently with no injury'.

Court documents say that in July, a cooperating individual (CI) with the WING Drug Task Force met up with Novotny and purchased meth. During the buy, there were two children under the age of 5-years-old in the car.

The CI also told officers that after the buy, she had at least 5 grams of methamphetamine on her person. They followed her to a Gering gas station where she was filling up, and was caught emptying a plastic bag that had a white powdery substance.

The 'Attempt of a Class II felony' is a Class III felony that carries a prison sentence ranging from 1 - 20 years. The other two charges are Class I misdemeanors that could carry up to one year in prison on each count.
