City looking to boost tourism numbers

Posted: Updated:

The staff at the Alliance Chamber of Commerce is looking into increasing tourism in the city and is turning to residents for ideas.

Director Dixie Nelson says members at the Chamber have periodically mailed Alliance attraction booklets to members of the community and to people out of state.

1200 visitor and relocation packets have been mailed out and Nelson says this is helping.

The city has also looked into sale taxes and traffic count numbers to compare to previous years and to see if those numbers have increased.

Nelson says residents can also join a committee through the chamber to share their ideas on how to make better.

"The thing is we want to instill in our community we have a great community and if you want to hear how great our community is don't ask somebody normally who's grown up here, ask somebody that's made the choice to move here and they're the ones who can tell you how great your community is." Nelson said.

Nelson says she has an open door policy to the community and that anyone with ideas on how to increase tourism can visit the chamber.
