WNCC receives 16K from annual golf tournament

The Nebraska Public Power District and Wells Fargo have teamed up to give money to a local community college for student scholarships.

Western Nebraska Community College has received $16,000 from the Wells Fargo Nebraska Open Golf tournament.

That money raised goes to a general scholarship fund.

Members of WNNC's financial office say a scholarship committee are reviewing applications at this time.

Associate Financial Aid Director DJ VanderWerff says this money will go to help further education goals of students.

"This is important because even though WNCC's tuition is very affordable money is still tight for students and families these days. And every little bit helps even if it's only a few hundred dollars each semester. That will make a difference in the lives of students and their families when it comes to succeeding, finishing college and getting a job afterwards."

The committee is expected to award scholarships from this money to students by March of next year.

Since the tournament's inception, more than $235,000 has been raised to benefit WNCC scholarships.
