Four Scotts Bluff County businesses fail alcohol compliance checks

Posted: Updated:

Four Scotts Bluff County establishments are caught selling alcohol to minors.

Scottsbluff businesses: Maverik, Sam and Louie's, and the Fifth and O gas station, along with Gering's Stage Coach Stop have failed the latest series of alcohol compliance checks.

The checks are a joint effort between the Scotts Bluff County Sheriffs Department, Scottsbluff Police Department, and the Nebraska State Patrol.

Monument Prevention Coalition Director Lanette Richards says even though most businesses that sell alcohol require their employees to take a ‘responsible beverage server training,' it doesn't always work.

"What we're finding is that even though they are trained and the businesses say ‘this is very important that you don't sell to underage kids', that we find the employees take an attitude of ‘that's not that big a deal'," says Richards.

Eleven people with an average age of18 helped law enforcement conduct the checks.  A 15–year – old was served alcohol on more than one occasion.
