Huskers helping local businesses this Black Friday

Posted: Updated:

Many businesses opened their doors early today for Black Friday shoppers, but some opened to accommodate an entirely different crowd.

For years, the Nebraska Cornhuskers have played a morning game the day after Thanksgiving.

Bars across Nebraska opened early to allow "Big Red" fans to catch the game, and cash in on a little extra business.

Travis Parker owns 18th Street Bar and Grille in Scottsbluff- and he too opened early today.

He thinks it's important to have a place to go for people who don't want to deal with shopping frenzies.

"We're normally not open at 9:30 on Friday," explains Parker. "But football- Nebraska football- has always kind of been a tradition in this state. So we try to accommodate the people."

Nebraska took on the Iowa Hawkeyes this morning in Lincoln… and highlights from that game will be on during KOTA Territory News tonight.
