Day-after-Thanksgiving gym goers sparse

Posted: Updated:

While countless people are out shopping for the best Black Friday deals, some hit the gym, hoping to shed a few pounds after yesterday's feast.

According to ‘Web MD', the average American consumes 3,000 calories or more during a typical Thanksgiving dinner.

But YMCA employee Trevor Coxbill says the Y's gym is usually pretty empty the day after Thanksgiving.  He says gym traffic usually picks–up the following Monday.

"We don't see a whole lot of people," Coxbill says.  "So the traffic is kind of down due to people going on vacations and basically taking the day off to be with family.  And of course, Nebraska plays today so that's going to have a big impact on traffic in the building."

Coxbill says Black Friday also puts a big dent in numbers because people choose to shop rather than hit the gym.
