City of Sidney planning northward expansion

Posted: Updated:

A lot of talk has gone on about the eastward expansion project in the city of Sidney, but there are also plans in the works to develop the area just north of town.

The ‘Industrial Park' area located just 10 miles north of Sidney close to the former Sioux Army Depot will soon undergo construction.

Millions of dollars worth of projects are planned for the area.

Sidney City Manger Gary Person says those include at least $15 million dollars in projects from Adams Industry, a $25 million dollar manufacturing facility from Bell Pole and Lumber, and a new rail logistics park.

Person says the location of the Industrial Park area is more than ideal for the types of businesses being developed there.

"The uniqueness of that Industrial Park us the fact that we have three rail roads that serve that area, there's the short line, Sidney low railroad that ties together Burlington Northern's Northern/Southern route as well as the East/West Union Pacific route. So industries can have the best of both worlds when it comes to shipping."

More than 200 million dollars worth or projects are planned for the city of Sidney in the coming years.
