Food For Fines fundraiser underway at Lied Library

Posted: Updated:

Scottsbluff Lied Library along with Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska are teaming up for the second annual Food for Fines fundraiser.

Throughout the month of December, for each non-perishable food item members donate, they will then get one dollar knocked off of any late fees.

Last year, more than 700 dollars were collected.

Library Director Abby Yellman says anyone can drop off cans, not just late fee members.

"We receive a ton of support from the community." Said Yellman. "We're very appreciative of that. We're trying to pay it back. We want to help out the community and doing the food drive is a way that we can get involved. Still help our patrons out a little bit by forgiving those fines but then also giving back to the food pantry at CAPWN."

The fundraiser runs until the end of the month.
