Meat-packaging storage and retailer coming near Mitchell

Posted: Updated:

Plans to bring a meat processing and packaging plant near the city of Mitchell are moving forward after approval by the Scotts Bluff County Commissioners.

Commissioners approved a conditional use permit for the owners of Valley Ridge Processing and Packaging.

The facility will be located one mile outside of Mitchell near highway 26 and Cook Oil road.

Co-owner Derrick Hessler says he's happy to offer beef, lamb, and sheep products to the community and to have a place that will be a little different than current meat shops in the county.

"We figured there's not one in Mitchell that's fully retailed," said Hessler. "And we thought that if we brought one to the area where we're at that would bring a different spin on what everyone else has."

The meat-packing facility is expected to be open by June 1st 2014.
