Nebraska native running for U.S. Senator as Independent

Posted: Updated:

A former Nebraska small business owner and rancher is touring the panhandle and independently running for U.S. Senate.

Jim Jenkins of Calloway is on the Independent ticket.

Jenkins, a former Democrat, says both Republicans and Democrats in Washington seem to be focused more on power than governing the nation.

He says a majority of Americans are left in the middle of the political spectrum and that middle isn't being represented well.

Jenkins says he's excited to run and represent the Nebraska culture of self-sufficiency and family values.

"As I tell people, I'm excited to caucus on behalf of Nebraskans and on behalf of American people. I think that's what's missing right now and I think my candidacy is geared up to fill that void."

Jenkins is looking to fill Mike Johanns' seat during the end of his term.
