#GivingTuesday; an opportunity for locals to give back to the community

Posted: Updated:

The United Way is making an effort to better communities with a new post-Thanksgiving tradition called ‘Giving Tuesday'.

People are encouraged to get onto social media and describe what they do to volunteer, and use the term #GivingTuesday.

United Way of Western Nebraska Director Steph Black says hopefully this will prompt people to get into the spirit of giving.

She says there are countless of ways to volunteer in the twin cities. Her agency alone has 24 entities that are constantly looking for volunteers, and some activities can be done as an entire family.

"We have four nights a week that we have soup kitchens in our community serving meals," explains Black. "They always need people to help cook, serve meals, clean up. What a great way to get your family together, teach your children about giving back and volunteering.

Black also says that another way to give back is through financial donations to local non-profits… and those donations are tax-deductible.
