Gordon meat processing plant beginning operation today

Posted: Updated:

A new meat packing plant is back in the panhandle and in operation, as of today.

Ribbons were cut in front of Open Range Beef LLC in Gordon Tuesday, welcoming the company to the community.

The meat packing company began operations today in the building previously owned by ‘Local Pride.'

Open Range purchased the building this June and immediately began renovations.

Plant Principal Pat Shudak says the plant is unique in that it can provide custom-killing for customers, and will provide a high-end product to clients both domestically and overseas.

"We will have USDA graders on hand here that actually grad the meat. SO when you talk about prime, and choice and select, all the cattle we do here will be that way."

Plant expects to process around 300 head of cattle a day, but those numbers could grow with the business as orders increase.
