$5 million renovation and expansion to WNCC dorm moves forward

Posted: Updated:

One of the oldest dorms on Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff is getting a 5 million dollar face-lift.

A college community board has approved a contract with Omaha Architect RDG for the renovation and expansion project to Pioneer Hall.

Vice President of Administrative Services William Knapper says the building is in poor shape.

The heating and ventilation systems, along with windows will be renovated.

By late winter of this year bids will go out to local contractors.

Knapper says for the last four years housing has been tight, as a result 60 beds will also be added.

"We need some additional beds. The other thing that the addition provides for us is that as we renovate Pioneer Hall, we can have a portion of the student body in the addition while we're renovating one of the three different floors in the existing structure."

Construction on the addition and renovation is expected to begin May 2014 to May 2015.
