NE Bar Association cuts mandatory fees

Posted: Updated:

There's good news for those aspiring to practice law in Nebraska.

The mandatory fees once required by the Nebraska Bar Association have been cut.

Starting next year, Nebraska lawyers will not be forced to pay for lobbying and other programs run by the state Bar Association.

The change was made Friday by the Nebraska Supreme Court after a petition was filed by a state lawmaker.

Senator Scott Lautenbaugh objected to mandatory dues being used for activities not necessarily related to law.

The state's high court decided to limit mandatory dues to only activities that are necessary to regular the legal profession.
