Landowners have until Jan. 17 to apply for USDA Conservation Stewardship Program

Posted: Updated:

Nebraska landowners have the opportunity to receive financial aid to help conserve the state's natural resources.

The ‘Conservation Stewardship Program' is a USDA sponsored program that pays farmers and ranchers to do their part in conserving the states valuable resources, such as water and soil.

Participants in the program will receive annual payments for the environmental benefits they produce on their operations.

Program leaders say the stewardship program is popular in Nebraska because it doesn't require farmers and ranchers to take their land out of production.

The program covers 4.8 million acres across Nebraska, and farmers and ranchers from all 93 counties are eligible.

Landowners have until January 17 to submit an application for the Conservation Stewardship Program.
