Morrill Elementary students enjoy recess outside thanks to warmer temps

Posted: Updated:

Morrill Elementary School students enjoy what has become a rarity in recent days: recess outside.

Going outside for recess is often the favorite time of day for elementary school students.

But with recent temperatures well below freezing, students have been forced to play indoors.

Morrill Superintendent Nick Schafer says if the temperature or wind chill is below zero, then students will stay in the building.

"There's always a few tough boys that want to go out there for recess and play football in the snow like they do in the NFL, last week anyway," says Schafer.  "But mostly they want to stay-in, especially with temperatures like we've had this past week.  They've really been terrible".

Schafer says it's safer to have students inside when the temperature drops too low because the freezing weather is tough on joints and lungs.
