Wyoming escapee makes first appearance in Scotts Bluff County Court

Posted: Updated:

A man who escaped from a Wyoming Prison work camp, and then got into a scuffle with Nebraska authorities makes his first appearance in Scotts Bluff County Court.

26-year-old Adrian Sosa faces 5 charges in Scotts Bluff County, after police tracked him down on Monday.

Court documents say Sosa left the Volunteers of America program through the Wyoming Department of Corrections on October 12th, and was listed as an escapee.

On Monday, December 9th, investigators with the Scottsbluff Police Department and WING Drug Task Force were able to corner Sosa at the Scottsbluff Safeway.

In the store, investigators contacted Sosa, and noticed him holding onto his waistline with one hand. He tried to run away after police told him to get on the ground. Two of the officers grabbed Sosa and wrestled him to the ground, and a gun was taken from Sosa's hand.

One of the officers was punched in the head by Sosa and later scratched. He was also grabbed by the mouth by Sosa causing his lip to crack. A second officer was kicked in the genitals.

They also found a bag with methamphetamine in it.

Today in District Court, Sosa signed a waiver of extradition to go back to Wyoming for the escape charge- but that won't be executed until legal proceedings in Scotts Bluff County are complete.

He is being charged with felon in possession of a firearm, 2 counts of assault on a police officer, possession of a controlled substance, and resisting arrest.

He is being held on a $195,000 bond at 10%. A preliminary hearing will be scheduled in the coming weeks.
