Senator Harms looks for more District 48 candidates for upcoming vacancy

Posted: Updated:

As he enters his final year in the Nebraska legislature, Scottsbluff Senator John Harms is calling on constituents to consider replacing him in the unicameral.
After serving two full terms, the District 48 senator will be ousted by term limits.

As of today, Scottsbluff attorney Mike Meister is the lone candidate who has filed to fill the upcoming vacancy.

Senator Harms is challenging people to give the 48th District a choice of 3 - to- 4 candidates.
"And then, you should be able to decide: does this person carry my philosophy? Do they carry my values and principals, and what I want to represent me in Lincoln, Nebraska?" questioned Harms. "We haven't done that. I'm not being critical or saying that the one person who's chosen to run is poor- I'm just telling you have to have more choices."
Senator Harms says that once January rolls around, it is difficult to piece together a viable campaign for the may primaries.

He says he will give his advice to people looking to fill his seat, and his wife Pat will tell candidates' spouses how she coped when Senator Harms was out in Lincoln doing legislative work.
