Locals rush to finish GED before deadline

Nebraska students in the process of finishing the GED exam are scrambling to get tested before the end of the year.

The GED testing service will release a new series of tests in 2014 and people who haven't passed by then will have to start over.

Hundreds of panhandle residents who are taking the high school equivalency exam could be affected.

People who have passed part -but not all - of the nation's current GED test have until January 1st to do so.

WNCC's Educational Outreach Program Coordinator Marilyn Dodge says she is worried that a lot of people will have to start over.

"There has been a rush, we have been fielding phone calls, and we've been talking to Lincoln," says Dodge. "Because there are certain requirements that need to be met if your re-testing on a test that you've failed before."

Western Nebraska Community College will hold their last GED testing this December 17 th.
