Ag-specialists meet for Panhandle Agricultural Summit

Posted: Updated:
Ag-leaders, ag-producers, farmers, ranchers and ag-specialists gathered in the Gering Civic Center this afternoon.
Today is the first day of the panhandle agricultural summit hosted by the Scottsbluff / Gering Chamber of Commerce and the UNL Extension Office.

The groups met to discuss the future of the agriculture industry, and how the three main players: livestock, crops, and water, will play into it.

UNL Interim Research Director Gary Hergert says this is the first time they have organized this type of meeting, and expects a lot to come from it.
"What we wanted to do was put together a kind of larger overview of agriculture in the panhandle with a number of outside speakers that will come in and give us a perspective really on the whole ag-production front."
The agricultural summit continues Friday.

Day two will focus on how to put the topics discussed on day one into action
