Sen. Fischer: Farm Bill compromise likely won't be reached until January

Posted: Updated:

Senator Deb Fischer took some time this week to discuss a few of the big ticket items awaiting action by the senate before the year ends, one of which being the Farm Bill.
The current Farm Bill law expired at the end of September, and while senators have been working to iron out the differences between house and senate versions,  Senator Fischer says a final deal isn't expected to be reached until January.
"Nebraskans are tired of 'kicking the can down the road' on this issue, and so am I. Our farmers and ranchers need to have that certainty and a five year farm policy is necessary to achieve that."
The house ag-committee chairman has indicated willingness to file an extension if need be, but Fischer says a quickly-reached compromise would be in the best interest for everyone.
