Alliance showcase to benefit Backpack Program

Posted: Updated:

Choirs and bands will fill the Alliance High School's performing arts center Saturday night to show off their talent all for a good cause.

The Alliance Area Holiday Showcase will benefit the Alliance Backpack Program.

Each week, members of the program provide canned food items to children in need of meals.

The program began four years ago.

Since then, members have handed out about 125 bags of food or spent nearly $400 each week to help kids in need.

Something member and Science teacher Laura Schroer says is priceless.

"For me personally, I just can't imagine a child going hungry. That would just be so sad. So for me, it's a way to help see that that doesn't happen. At least happen less frequently in our community. And our community has been extremely supportive." Said Schroer.

There is a $5 admission fee for Saturday's showcase which starts at 7 p.m.
