Strong turnout for area bike club meeting

Posted: Updated:

A newly founded group in Scotts Bluff County is gearing up to start ‘pedaling' their mission throughout the region.

Bicycle enthusiasts met for the first Tuesday night to talk about forming a bike club.

The group, headed by retired Gering Police Chief Mel Griggs, wants to let more people to get involved with the hobby.

Griggs says one of the big things to keep this group going is having advocates to see how the group can expand and let other know what type of riding is available in the area.

Griggs hopes that this becomes bigger than just a *local* riding club.

"I see this going throughout the panhandle," explains Griggs. "I've had contact from people up north, and as far away as Grand Island and Omaha. I mean bicycling is becoming a thing throughout the state- it isn't just Scotts Bluff County."

Griggs says that with the expanding popularity of the Monument Marathon and Fall Frolic, the Scotts Bluff County Tourism Committee thinks there can be success with other types of activities- including bicycling.

For more information on this group, you can email Griggs at . He hopes that the group can create a website or Facebook page in the near future to keep people informed on the progress.
