Phase One of Alliance's Streetscape project finished

Posted: Updated:

The final bricks are set to be put down along Box Butte Avenue in Alliance as Phase One of the city's Streetscape project concludes.

Crews are expected to wrap up putting down bricks along Hwy 2 near Box Butte Avenue by the end of this week.

Since August, local contractors have planted trees, installed a new irrigation system and placed electrical wires underground.

Historic Main Street Director Debby Feller says local business owners have been patient with the slight interruptions outside their store fronts but she says everyone has been pleased with the new upgrades.

"This is something that the city felt is so important that they have budgeted. This has been in the works since 2007. It was a commitment by the city, the business owners have been very cooperative, (and) certainly the city council. It's been a cooperative effort to get it started, see the follow through on it and actually seeing the finish is a huge accomplishment for the community." Said Feller.

Phase Two of the $1.5 million dollar project is expected to begin by late spring, mid-summer.

This would include the 300 to 400 block of Box Butte Avenue.

The city of Alliance is planning to have a ribbon cutting ceremony for Phase One on January 14, 2014.
