Fischer votes against budget bill

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer is taking a stand against the Senate's budget resolution because of what it will do for military pay.
Fischer says she appreciates the good faith efforts of the budget negotiators to reach an agreement.

However, she is deeply troubled by the proposed cuts in the retired pay and survivor benefits for military men and women.

Fischer says it is doubly concerning that these changes would affect current retirees, instead of grandfathering in those who are already receiving benefits.

She says the budget would cut pensions for veterans who had to retire for medical reasons, including battle wounds.
"Such a significant move must be fully evaluated in an open transparent and deliberative legislative process," says Fischer. "Not hastily enacted at the end of the year."
Fischer says she wants to see congressional recommendations on proposed budgetary savings, before agreeing to any changes.
