North Platte N.R.D. starts pilot recycling program in panhandle

Posted: Updated:

The North Platte Natural Resources District has partnered with Keep Scottsbluff/Gering Beautiful to promote recycling throughout the panhandle.

N.R.D is funding educational programs that teach elementary students about recycling.

David Wolf, Educational Coordinator for N.R.D, says schools are already recycling but he wants to reinforce the topic.

If needed, blue recycle bins have been placed in schools to collect recyclable materials.

Wolf says informing young people will increase the chances of keeping recyclables out of the landfill.

"If we can keep stuff out of the landfill, get it reused it will save us time, save us money as taxpayers, and the message of conservation is what we at the N.R.D want to portray." Said Wolf.

The pilot recycle program started in Scottsbluff and Gering and has expanded to schools in Chadron.
