Studies show that Nebraskans are doing their part in helping out.

A new report says Nebraska has one of the nation's highest volunteerism rates, with more than one in three residents who stepped up to serve last year.

Nebraska ranked fifth in the nation in the 'Corporation for National and Community Service' report.

According to its numbers, 36% of Nebraska residents volunteered last year, clocking more than 50 million hours' worth of time spent volunteering.

The findings were announced Friday by Nebraska First Lady Sally Ganem, the honorary head of the state's Volunteer Service Commission
