Christmas in the Valley meal expected to feed nearly 1,000 people

Preparations were underway today for 'Christmas in the Valley, the largest free holiday meal in KOTA Territory.

Hundreds of pounds of turkey, ham, and all the trimmings are ready to be served to well over 800 people tomorrow, both at the church and delivered to their homes.

"There are a lot of people around who don't have the opportunity to get a meal, or they're not with family, it doesn't matter where you are, if you need a meal, give us a call and we'll make sure to get a meal out to you," said Larry Massie.

Larry Massie, the organizer of Christmas in the Valley, says he wants everyone who need a warm meal, to get one.

Volunteers, he said, are also welcome to come help out.
"Anyone who wants to come can come, on either side of the counter, whether it be on the serving line or the receiving line, just come on and enjoy the day and be with people, okay? Don't sit at home and be by yourself if you don't have to."
Massie says he started the free meal in 2003, and it has been growing ever since.

The meal will be served at Grace Chapel Church in Scottsbluff from 11a.m. to 1p.m. Christmas day.

Anyone who may be stuck at home or at work and would like a meal delivered can call Larry Massie at 308-225-1827.
