Kimball Police Department looks to add a police officer to school campuses

Posted: Updated:

A police presence at Kimball schools will soon be a regular thing, as the Police Department has hired-on a full time Student Resource Officer.
The Kimball Police Department recently acquired a grant that allowed for them to hire a new officer specifically for the schools.

Chief of police, Darren Huff, and Superintendent of Kimball Public Schools, Marshall Lewis, both say the new student resource officer will help to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community, and will also help to make kids feel more comfortable around the police.
"Being able to be a counselor, a law enforcement counselor which allows the officers a little bit of leeway in working with kinds in a whole new light," Huff said.
"Just having another adult as a role model to interact with the students to be able to build those relationships and be able to create a safe outlet for them if they're having some issues," said Superintendent Lewis.
The new student resource officer is set to begin his position on December 30th.
