Valley Bank donates over 800 items to Riverside Discovery Center

Posted: Updated:

Donations poured in this weekend at the Riverside Discovery Center in Scottsbluff.

Members of Valley Bank and Trust dropped off more than 800 items that will go towards feeding and entertaining the zoo animals.

Each year, Valley Bank employees hold a competition to see which department can collect the most items.

The operation department won this year, leading the way with 436 items that include canned cat food, bird toys and dog food.

Operations Officer and part-time Zookeeper Michael Gillen says it's vital to stimulate the activity of the zoo animals.

"We always like to have unique things and unique opportunities for the animals, enriching items that change up their day to day routine. And so it's very important for Valley Bank to be involved in the community. So it was a great connection that we could partner with the Riverside Discovery Center each year since we started the Jingle Paws Drive to have these connections." Said Gillen.

Anyone interested in still donating food and toys to the zoo can drop them off until December 31st.
