Monument Mall improvement plans excite current mall tenants

Posted: Updated:

Some major improvements are coming to Scottsbluff's Monument Mall and the retail center's current tenants are hoping for a big increase in mall traffic.

Last week, Texas–based retail investment firm ‘RockStep Capital', along with other ‘passive investors', Finalized the purchase of the 27–year–old retail center.

RockStep has since announced plans to revamp the facility and attract a wide variety of new tenants.

The plan is to add ten new businesses and roughly 150–new jobs over the next three years.

The 'Kitchen Company's Debra Smith says she's excited for any change that will draw–in more shoppers.

"We're hoping for maybe some new restaurants, some different types of restaurants than we have in Scottsbluff and Gering," says Smith.  "We're hoping for some bigger businesses, like bigger brand names... Old Navy, Khols... just something that will really draw people into the mall so the rest of us can stay in business."

"I would hope that it would bring more of our walk-in cliental, because a lot of people don't know that we're still in the mall," says Regis Manager Irene Ramirez.   "They're going to also put out name out front so people know that we're still in the mall."

RockStep Capital plans to dramatically enhance the malls curb appeal with things like new signage and other aesthetic improvements.

Regis Manager Irene Ramirez says her co-workers are hopeful about the potential for future growth.

"My stylists are excited," says Ramirez.  "In fact, I have like six people wanting to come join our team, but I have to kind of wait until we can have some more stores in here to help with the flow."

RockStep Capital will begin improvement efforts in 2014 and hopes to welcome new tenants in the next several months.
