District 12 Probation looks to McConaughy Center for new space

Posted: Updated:

Plans are moving forward for District 12 Probation as its chief officer and Scotts Bluff County Commissioners work together on purchasing a building for more office space and programming.

As it stands, District 12 Probation uses part of the administration building in Gering for drug testing and to hold programs after building hours.

County commissioners are looking to purchase the McConaughy Discovery Center building across the street for an estimated $220,000.

The Chief Probation Officer said juveniles would be able to work on their GEDs in the other building.

District 12 would also plan on moving about 13 probation offices out of the courthouse and admin building to McConaughy.

"We're finally moving toward them being able to supervise adequately, just simply do a better job because there will be some space to do it and to set up different programming for our probationers." said Linda Buehler, Chief Probation Officer for District 12.

Commissioner Mike Marker said that the county is required by law to house District 12 probation offices.
